Freshwater Trout Fishing: Eucumbene Lake & River - Days 5-7 (Final)

A close-up of a rainbow trout caught on a Taco Tackle lure, glistening in the sun with vivid colors and a perfect catch from Lake Eucumbene.

Time of Year: April (2023)
Location: Lake Eucumbene NSW
Fishing Method: Lure Trolling
Target Species: Rainbow Trout

The Gear

All you need is our Lake & Trout Taco which includes all the lures and leader I used and had success with, but I've also listed the ideal trolling spread and lures in single items further below.

Intro

Day 5 was rained out and a rest day, but after the success so far we were happy taking it easy and just focusing on trolling to see which lures / colourways work best, particularly on Rainbow Trout for a more enjoyable feed and a more enjoyable aerial display.

Location Location Location

We noticed early on in the trip that most of the rainbow action in the lake was around Providence Portal, so both days we motored straight up to that region using the sounder and our strike rate to refine a repeated ideal trolling line. A lot of the water we trolled was 3-5m deep with small shrubby trees lining the shore and sometimes the bottom of the lake.
